At Mike's request, I'm adding this : On 9th April 2011, we organised a reunion at our old school, 'Crown Woods' in Eltham, SE9 . The school although only built in 1958, was closed on 8th April, scheduled for demolition, which in September is now complete. I 'fixed' things so that 'It's Good News Week' was the last piece of music ever played there - it holds very special memories for me, linked with a lifetime (unrequited) love of a certain girl ! I expect many readers have 'been there', and will know what it's like ! So, thanks Mike for the fabulous memories.

Hi Jaylee. The original lyric you are referring to is ' Families stem the need for coal by simulating birth control, we're wanting less to eat'. On the later 'doctored' version it is 'Lots of blood in Asia now they've butchered up thier sacred cow, they've got a lot to eat'. Ironically, I would think this is more potentially offensive nowadays than the original !
I've just sent a message to Mike, and would repeat here that I was always puzzled as to why the OTHER 4 Hedgehoppers 45s didn't chart. Truly I like them all. The B side of 'stop Press' - 'Little Memories' stands up well also. As ever, sung with great feeling by Mike. One last point - is there ANY video of the Hedhgehoppers ? Funny how some groups/artists have so much, and others nothing at all ! Another great group with (apparently) no film is Johnny Kidd and the Pirates .
just thought i'd add a comment because my name is also mike tinsley;)

Just spoke to Mike, a very enjoayble conversation and a very nice guy. I'm looking forward to receiving a copy of 'My Survival'.
'It's Good News Week' a terrific song and 40 years ahead of it's time. I remember a conversation I had with Barry McGuire (Eve of Destruction), he likes the song and felt it was a shame that the song isn't played on UK radio more than it is, he also wished his Eve of Destuction was played more often.
Look forward to meeting up someday with Mike Tinsley.

I remember when the song Good News Week came out back in 1965, and while I remember a lot of the words to it, I don't remember all of them. There are some recordings posted on youtube...and they have the parts of the song that I really don't remember...but for some reason, a very specifice verse that I actually DO remember is missing. It's a shame that our memories are supposed to be tampered with in the search for "political correctness". I wish I could hear the original version again.
Good News Week was one of the first 45's I owned and the tune still comes back to me many times all these years later. Thanks for song

My son is quite impressed as he has been able to see some different photo's of his grandfather, We do have a copy of good news week on a cd. My son would like to know how he can get a copy of one of the coloured photo's of the original line up of the band. It is the photo with my dad (his grandad) in the left of the picture he has a red shirt under his jacket.

Hi Mike
Was good to meet you at Sara and Tony's bbq the other day. Have been reading your bio (v impressive) and will have a listen to your song tomorrow (little one is asleep so can't listen as don't know where my headphones are at the mo).
I will hopefully get around to uploading some of my songs onto my myspace page (once I've finished renovating my house that is).
Anyway as a bit of info on moi, I was lead singer in two Guernsey bands (Plan B and U S Monster Trucks) and have been asked to record some vocals for a friend (the one I was telling you about)......I also get together for the occasional acoustic jam with my friend Alan who is the bass player with another good local band The Devotees.
It was terrific to be able to interview you live on Perth radio (Curtin FM 100.1) in March 2010 on my interview segment called "Where Are They Now?" It was especially of interest to a lot of listeners here in Perth from the U.K. Our listeners were pleased to be able to hear the voice behind the hit and the life story and it was gratifying to be able to play the song you had written and sung yourself "My Survival” as the song is terrific. Our station plays music from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, which you clearly fit into. Good News Week is an oldies classic as is "Don't Push Me", I can continue to play "My Survival" as part of a package when I play your hits of the 60’s.

Thanks for your emails and your news Mike. Great to see such a good website - the quality and updating is so very lacking with quite a number of well known stars!! Thanks also for introducing me to your single 'My Survival' which I shall play as the third track during my radio programme here in Perth on the 6th March, immediately after 'Good News Week'. - about 5 past midnight here - just after 4pm on Friday afternoon your time. I believe it may be the songs first airing here in Australia and I am very pleased to play it, as it is a great song, very well orchestrated and produced.I know you will be doing an interview on the same station on the 15th March; I shall mention this too of course! The songs of the 60's are still so very much in demand, and 'Good News Week' certainly remains a classic from that time. I hope 'My Survival' also brings you sucess - the quality of the song certainly deserves that.
Very best wishes from Perth, Western Australia,
Mike.

Mike, thank you so much for posting the photo dedicated to Howard. He did tell me some tales of when you were touring in Sweden, but also that you covered a lot of miles - not realising how large Sweden actually is.
You were all young chaps then - glad you are still in the music business!
Kindest regards.

Michael thanks for all the information that you have passed on to me. I was not able to get the record but will try another avenue. I am so sorry that I did not do justice to your song and I had wished that I did. It is the old adage "if only". I was proud to have sung it anyway and known that you wrote it. Thank you.
Good luck for the future. Francoise Pascal.
